Recognizing the site 76 – 100 Church Street, Parramatta as a key ‘gateway’ location to the south-western corner of Parramatta, AJA saw the potential for this to make a significant contribution to both the built form and ground plan of the CBD, extending the adjacent laneways into a courtyard ‘sanctum’.
The design intent was to create an iconic building, responsive to its immediate and wider context in a form that achieves both architectural and urban design excellence. An ovoid shaped tower was conceived with an expressive skin that integrated aesthetic, technology and environmental performance, to create an engaging place evoking a ‘sense of home’ for residents and ‘sense of place’ for visitors.
In addition to 357 apartments and ground level retail, the concept also featured a communal roof top terrace, health club and spa, virtual recreation lounge and landscaped podium roof exercise track.
